Why does GCSE maths revision feel harder than it should?
Effort is there, but direction is missing.
Without a clear path, even motivated teens can lose momentum.
When revision has structure, belief starts to build.
Progress becomes visible and confidence begins to shine through.
In 2024, 95% of students passed GCSE maths when following the SUM approach.
35 percentage points above the UK national average in 2024.

Behind Straight Up Maths
I believe maths success comes from building understanding step by step, so confidence can follow naturally.
This means I understand not only how maths is taught, but also how it is truly assessed.
Straight Up Maths was created because too many capable teens were coming to me with a loss of confidence in maths, not through lack of effort, but through lack of clarity and consistency.
I kept seeing students who were trying, revising, and showing up, yet still feeling stuck and unsure whether what they were doing was actually helping....let alone knowing who to turn to.
The problem was rarely motivation.
It was the way their revision was structured and the way they were not being taught connections in the topics, or even the right revision strategies.
When learning feels disconnected, confidence dips and progress becomes harder to see. I know because I was once that teen.
So SUM was built to change all that by giving revision direction, purpose and consistent support from myself, so teens could see for themselves that their effort finally starts to add up.
